Retired, now Released

Sunday, November 16, 2008 Birch was released from the Anoka Stake Presidency after serving as the 1st Counselor for 13 1/2 years. He was first sustained as a counselor to President Joel Wiest in May, 1995. He was then sustained as a counselor to President Mark Paynter, November, 2002. Our family has enjoyed many blessings and have had great opportunities as he has served. We love the church members in Minnesota and have watched the church grow from 2 to 5 stakes in the 31 years we have been here.

We will miss the association with good friends but are looking forward to our new calling as Institute instructors! So many changes in our lives as we spend more time together preparing for a mission. It will be different sitting by Birch in church this Sunday, after 25 years of him sitting on the stand in one calling or another.

Teaching Institute will be fun! 13 years in the stake is a longgggggg time! I feel sorry for the new guy who has to try and fill Birch's shoes! Lets see how long it takes Birch to figure out how to fall asleep durig church now that he's not on the stand!
